So the advise is to use GPSBabel tool to filter out only the dates you are interested in. Takeout produces very big file as it downloads your entire Location History (which can be several years worth of locations), not just one day. I have already tried to apply the geocoding and it works fine.

I looked around for the solution and for now everyone recommends using Google Takeout service to download your location history as that file is not affected by the removal of When tags. Been manually geotagging in the mean time. I haven't had time to figure out an alternative method yet. GPSBabel doesn't seem to recognize it well. Google changed the way it formatted or exported. Select photos you want to tag and choose auto-tag.Open Lightroom, Maps, Load track log using the GPX file.Once you have the location history logs (KML format) it needs to be converted to GPX format so Lightroom can recognize.

Go to, under personal info & privacy go to "control your content", create archive, select location history, select format KML. If you need longer or all logs then google take out feature is required.

  • For under 30 days of logs go to & export to KML.
  • For iOS I believe you need to also have google search app installed.

  • For me, my android phone conveniently has all my location history as I carry it everywhere. You can use almost any device that gives gps logs. How it works? Lightroom has the ability to match Exif dates to GPS track logs and apply it to photos. I'm sure someone has posted something about it already, but just sharing my experience in case it is useful. It's awesome for camera that doesn't have GPS ability.
